Anambra State has witnessed a transformative change under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, a renowned professor of economics.
The state has seen significant reforms in various areas, including traditional medical practices, noise pollution, burials, and motor park management.
However, one critical aspect that requires immediate attention is price control, particularly in Awka, the state capital.
The prices of commodities in Awka and its environs have reached alarming levels.
A small tuber of yam, for instance, which can be purchased for N800 in nearby cities like Onitsha, Asaba, and Enugu, costs a staggering N2000 or more in Awka.
This price disparity is not only unjust but also unsustainable for the average citizen.
What makes this issue even more pressing is that Awka has the highest concentration of civil and public servants, who earn meager salaries.
These individuals, who are the backbone of the state’s bureaucracy, are struggling to make ends meet due to the exorbitant prices of essential commodities.
It is imperative that the state government intervenes to regulate prices and provide relief to these hardworking individuals.
As a professor of economics, Governor Soludo understands the importance of price regulation in maintaining economic stability and protecting consumers.
Despite operating in a free enterprise society, price control measures can help prevent exploitation and ensure fair competition among businesses.
The governor’s previous reforms have earned him a reputation as a leader who gets things done.
The mantra “Soludo is coming” has become a rallying cry, inspiring residents to behave responsibly and maintain order.
It is now time for Governor Soludo to tackle the issue of price control and bring relief to the people of Anambra.
We urge Soludo to establish a price regulatory mechanism that will monitor and control prices of essential commodities in Awka and beyond.
This will not only protect consumers but also promote economic growth and development in the state.
The people of Anambra have confidence in Governor Soludo’s ability to deliver on people’s welfare; do this again, Your Excellency!
