CONVOCATION: Unizik to Award Doctoral Degree to Tinubu’s Son as it Graduates 8,157

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State,is set to confer a doctoral degree(honoris causa)on Oluwaseyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as part of its 19th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, to Friday, March 28, 2025.
The university will also award honorary doctoral degrees to two other persons: Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Health and Chief Chika Emenike, CEO of KOTEC Group.
A total of 8,157 graduates will participate in the convocation ceremony, including 6,126 first-degree recipients, 163 postgraduate diploma holders, 706 postgraduate diploma in education recipients, 680 master’s degree awardees, 463 individuals to be conferred with doctorate degrees, and 16 doctoral students from the UNIZIK Business School.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, who announced these during a preconvocation press briefing,highlighted the university’s progress, citing significant growth, stability, and peace following its recent leadership crisis.
He emphasized efforts to improve the university’s academic, administrative, and infrastructural terrain, including campus beautification, improved electricity supply, enhanced security, and the promotion of digitization.
As part of the convocation activities, he announced that the university would commission several completed projects, including new office blocks, TETFund hostels, and a state-of-the-art Social Sciences Auditorium.
He emphasized that these developments aim to create a more conducive environment for both learning and professional growth.
The Acting VC expressed gratitude to the Visitor to the university, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, for their timely intervention during the institution’s leadership crisis.
He also appreciated university unions, staff, and students who played key roles in ensuring peace and stability.
