The group expressed disappointment and shame over the governor’s actions, describing them as an infringement on Peter Obi’s fundamental right to freedom of movement.
According to APMF, Peter Obi’s planned visit aimed to show solidarity with Benue State residents affected by marauders.
The APMF disputed Governor Alia’s claim that Peter Obi’s visit was “political charity,” arguing it was a gesture of goodwill and empathy.
They highlighted Benue State’s reputation as the “Food Basket of the Nation” due to its agricultural productivity, contradicting the governor’s assertion that the people are hungry.
The group criticized Governor Alia, a Reverend father, for actions deemed unbefitting of a man of God, betraying Christian virtues of empathy and compassion.
They called on him to publicly apologize to Peter Obi, Anambra and Benue States’ people, and IDP camp residents for insulting their sensibilities.
Given Peter Obi’s stature as an international personality and national asset, the APMF emphasized that his freedom of movement should not be restricted without just cause.
