Awka, Thursday — The Anambra State Police Command has been thrown into mourning following the death of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) James Omanulun Ihiabe, who until his demise was in charge of Operations in the Command.
ACP Ihiabe died on 1st October, 2025 after a brief illness. His passing, described by the Command as a great loss, has left a void in the fight against crime and the maintenance of law and order in the State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the late senior officer distinguished himself through years of dedicated service to the Nigeria Police Force and to Anambra State.
“During his service, ACP Ihiabe contributed immensely to the fight against violent crimes and the maintenance of law and order in the State,” the statement noted.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, expressed his condolences to the bereaved family, the Inspector-General of Police, and the entire Nigeria Police Force.
He described Ihiabe’s death as “an irreparable loss” to the Command and the nation’s security system.
Funeral arrangements, according to the Police, will be announced in due course.
ACP James Ihiabe is remembered by colleagues as a courageous and gallant officer whose commitment to duty left an enduring mark on policing in Anambra.
