Anambra State government has confirmed that a 10 years old boy assaulted by his guardian in Awada Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State is now in protective care.
A viral video of the minor was seen on social media with scalded body, showing injuries on all parts of his body, allegedly inflicted on him by his guardian, a woman and her husband.
No reason was given for the maltreatment, but a separate video making the rounds on social media showed residents of Awada Obosi storming the home of the woman, with aggrieved women abusing her and the husband for torturing the boy.
But in a social media post, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, confirmed that the boy is now in protective care.
The Commissioner said; “I want to thank the good caring people of Anambra State for bringing this case to our notice. The boy is receiving treatment now. My team /Obosi community women leader visited him.
“The offenders must face the law for this barbaric act. If you see something please say something”
It is however not clear if the woman responsible for the act has been handed over to law enforcement officers.
