Anambra at 35: Dr Ogbuka Scores State Above Average, Seeks More Improvement in Health Sector

As Anambra State marks its 35th anniversary of creation, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in the state, Dr Peter Ogbuka, has scored the state above average in its overall development.

In a congratulatory message to mark the anniversary, Ogbuka said Anambra, home to the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr Alex Ekwueme and other national icons, ought to have developed beyond its present level.

According to the medical expert, there is still considerable room for improvement if the citizenry are properly mobilised to harness the state’s human and material resources.

On the health sector, Ogbuka acknowledged that the state had made appreciable progress but said much more needed to be done to build on the contributions of medical experts, including the late Professor Festus Nwako, and advance healthcare delivery beyond the shores of the state.

He urged Anambra citizens and residents to take ownership of the state and leverage its abundant potential to move it to greater heights.

Also in his congratulatory message, a former Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Chief Ifenna Ikegwuonu, said Anambra had made appreciable progress across various sectors of the economy since its creation 35 years ago.

The former council boss urged Anambra residents to work towards ensuring that the state stays on course and does not slide into retrogression.

The present Anambra State was created on August 27, 1991, following the carving out of Enugu State from the then Anambra State. Parts of present-day Ebonyi State were also formerly part of the old Anambra State.
