APGA Clears all 21 Chairmanship, 362 Councillorship Positions in Anambra Council Polls

The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State has won all the 21 local government chairmanship positions in the state.

The party also won all the 362 ward councillorship positions in the election that took place last Saturday.

The chairman of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Mrs Genevieve Osakwe who spoke to journalists after the declaration of the full results said all the candidates of the party have officially been declared winners.

She said: “The elections took place across 362 electoral wards and 21 local government areas (LGAs) in Anambra State and it was conducted in a peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible manner in line with the state electoral laws and guidelines.”

Reacting to previous information that the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Anambra East LGA backed out of the election with their chairmanship and councillorship candidates as a result of violence and malpractice, Osakwe said the commission was not aware.

According to the her, the candidate of YPP scored 1,658 votes while the APGA candidates scored 50,169 in the local government to emerge as winner.

She appreciated the people of the state for having confidence in the commission during the voting process, and the security agencies and the media for their support before, during and after electoral exercise.

In his brief reaction on behalf of other elected Mayors, the newly elected chairman of Ayamelum local government area, Hon Emmanuel Igwebuike, commended the state governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the commission, the security agencies and the media for ensuring a conducive environment during the election.
