Anambra police react to Sunday evening cult killings in Awka, insists only two died

The Anambra State Police Command has reacted to the shooting in Awka the state capital on Sunday evening, insisting that only two persons fell to the bullets of suspected cultists.

The command in the press release by the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga condemned in the strongest terms the gunshot attacks.

The Command said it has intensified the manhunt for the perpetrators is also calling for the support and cooperation of members of the public to assist in identifying the culprits.

The release read: “Information gathered so far reveals that three unidentified persons, travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla, with registration number yet to be ascertained, reportedly shot two persons at separate locations within Awka.

“Upon receipt of the distress information, Command operatives immediately mobilised patrol teams to the affected areas and commenced efforts to track down the assailants.”

The command said it took the victims to hospital where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

It said while the first victim remains unidentified, the second was identified as Aiza Nwosu, a popular personality in Awka.

“While one of the victims is yet to be identified, the second victim has been identified as Isaac Nwosu, male, also known as “Aiza.”

“The operatives also recovered from the scenes the sum of ₦7,550, one Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers.

*The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has strongly condemned the dastardly act and described the killings as unacceptable and a direct affront to the peace and security of the State.

“The CP has further directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation, while security operatives have intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and adjoining areas,” the release read.
