The Anambra State government has warned that anyone involved in cash collection for tax payment in the state would henceforth be severely punished.
The decision for cashless payment was one of the decisions taken at the state Executive Council meeting in Awka.
Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor said after the meeting, that the decision followed a report that cash collection for tax payment was still occurring in some areas of the state’s economy.
“Cash collection for tax payment remains prohibited in the state and defaulters will henceforth face harsh penalties”, Mefor said.
The Council also decided to organize a retreat for the EXCO members to ensure a team cohesion, as opposed to a situation whereby members merely act individually .
According to the Commissioner, “this is to align all members with their responsibilities so that they know exactly what is expected of them individually and collectively.”
Meanwhile, the African University Of Science And Technology and West African College Of Nurses have presented Governor Chukwuma Soludo with awards.
The two institutions said the awards were conferred on the governor for what they described as his stellar performances.
They said Soludo merited the awards for being the governor who employed the highest number of nurses (over 1,350) in Nigeria and for being one of the few states in the country that pay the current salary scale for nurses.
They also said that they considered Governor Soludo’s dedication to the Anambra state’s acquisition of more than 260,000 digital skills and going further to designate the former Government House in Awka as a tech hub and innovation district.
