Youth kidnap soldier in Anambra, Soludo kicks

Some youth in Anaku community in the Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State have allegedly abducted one of the soldiers sent to maintain peace and took away his service gun.

The chairman of the local government area, Chief Livinus Onyenwe, disclosed to journalists on Monday.

Security operatives, including soldiers, were posted to restore peace to the area when the youth led by their kingpin , identified as Vulture reportedly killed eight persons and injured many in Omor community last Monday.

Speaking with journalists, Onyenwe said the soldiers had gun battle with the youth and in the process, a soldier was abducted, and his gun taken away.

According to him, in retaliation, the soldiers pulled down the house of the gang leader, and those of some other youths suspected to belong to the deadly gang.

He said the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo had directed youth of the community to immediately release the soldier and return his gun.

According to him, the governor also directed law enforcement agencies to do everything within their constitutional powers to ensure that the soldier was rescued, and his rifle returned.

Onyenwe said the governor had directed that security operatives would remain in the town until the perpetrators were tracked down.
