Our Reporter
Anambra State residents have tagged billionaires in the State as selfish, following their inability to raise 19 million naira hospital bill for the woman who delivered sextuplets in the State.
The billionaires they are tackling are the Labour Party LP presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, the Oil magnate, Prince Arthur Eze and Senator Uche Ekwunife.
Others are, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah,, Hon Chris Azubogu, representing Nnewi North, South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Chief Chris Uba and his elder brother, Andy
Already, the family has been able to remit only two million naira out of the sum of 19 million the hospital has billed
The UNIZIK lecturer, Mrs Ngozi Uzodike, delivered seven babies at the Obijackson Women and Children’s hospital in Okija, Ihiala local government area on Sunday
Speaking with The Razor , one of the residents, who gave his name as Chika, was angry at Prince Arthur Eze, who according to her, shares money to politicians but had decided to be quiet on the bundles of joy to Ndi Anambra State.
According to the angry trader ” imagine all the appeals ,yet, these selfish people will not come to the rescue of those poor couple , after they will be looking for who to vote for them during elections
“Ekwunife, Ubah and Azubogu will be sharing what looks like one- cup of rice to people to vote for them or wrappers, but they will prefer those children to die instead of rendering help ” she cried
Another person, Mr Jideofor Okeke, told The Razor, that it was disheartening watching the so called billionaires like Peter Obi canvassing for votes without looking the way of couple who delivered seven babies.
“Yet, some people are campaigning for him because he wants to be President, is that not how he will abandon the people if elected?
“He will travelling from country to country, State to State, donating millions of naira , but to help the poor people here, he and his cohorts will not, is that not wickedness ? Okeke asked
The Razor, gathered that some individual donations ranging from 5,000,20,000 and 10,000 had been coming to the family since the delivery ,but not the kind of amount that could solve the payment.
The husband of the woman, Mr Celestine Uzodike, told The Razor, that his only regret was that his wife had not been paid since 2020 she was engaged at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
He further, appealed to the Federal and State governments, Corporate organizations and individuals to come to their aids, adding that already, they had lost one of the babies.
However, he praised the hospital Management for taking good care of his wife and the remaining six babies, adding that with God on their side, they would raise the amount.
The Healthcare Manager of the hospital, Chika Ndu -Okonkwo, told The Razor, that the amount got to 19 million naira because of the cost of oxygen.
She said taking care of those babies were not an easy thing, adding that even at that, they would do everything within their reach to keep them alive.
She said each of the babies would stay up to eight weeks in the hospital and each of the babies would gulp around three million naira ,adding that they weighed only 1KG each.
Ndu -Okonkwo, said that it was the time those who had money in the State and government should step in and save the lives of the children, adding that everything was not politics
THE RAZOR, gathered that the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in the State, through it’s Commissioner, Ify Obinabo, had reached the couple, assuring them of assistance.
