Chibok girls: UNIZIK FM, UNICEF hold summit on security for students

Nnamdi Azikiwe University campus radio, UNIZIK 94.1 FM, Awka in collaboration with UNICEF Enugu Field Office is set to hold a one-day Media and Student Summit.

The summit themed: “Creating Security for our Students” is in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the CHIBOK School Abduction.

Recall that on the night of 14–15 April 2014, 276 mostly Christian female students aged from 16 to 18 were kidnapped by the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram from the Government Girls Secondary School at the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria.

Prior to the raid, the school had been closed for four weeks due to deteriorating security conditions, but the girls were in attendance in order to take final exams in physics.

Therefore, the UNIZIK FM/UNICEF summit which will involve students interaction on School Safety in Nigeria will hold on Monday, 15th April 2024 at the University Auditorium from 10am.

The event will feature lecture presentations by resource persons such as the Director, UNIZIK FM Radio, Prof. Ifeoma Dunu amongst others

The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Chinonso Achebe will present his lecture on the Role of Government and School Management in ensuring a safe space for our students.

The institution’s Chief Safety Officer, Ken Chukwurah will discuss on Safety Tips for Students; former Head, Department of Mass Communication, Prof. Cornelius Ukwueze will speak on Strategies for making our school safe.

Deputy Director, UNIZIK FM Radio, Prof. Bentina Mathias will speak on Challenges of making our school safe while the Head, Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Agbasimelo will speak on the progress and situation of the school security.

Others expected to feature at the occasion is the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Frank-Collins Okafor and other top scholars in the field of communication and media practice.
