The people of Akuzor village a densely populated urban residential area in Nkpor community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have called on the government of Anambra State to come to their aid to fix their roads most particularly Ezenwannia road that connect the village to the outside world. Akuzor is largely occupied by traders who do their businesses at Onitsha and its environs.
Addressing journalists on the poor state of the roads, the spokesman of the Akuzor Executive Committee which oversee the affairs of village Mr Saicas Arinze Ibeabuchi explained that Akuzor is the only urban village in the whole of Idemili North with high population of inhabitants without a tarred road lamenting that the poor condition of the roads gives tax paying residents a nightmare
He observed that other urban residential areas in Idemili North such as Odume layout Obosi, Awada layout Obosi, Ugwuaba Obosi and Enekwansumpu as well as Umusiome Nkpor, Amafor Nkpor, Ikenga Ogidi, Nkwelle Ogidi, Umuoji, Abatete, Ideani, Abacha and others have asphalt tarred roads noting that non of the above listed urban residential areas in Idemili North is more populated than Akuzor Nkpor.
He went further to explain that the roads in Akuzor usually got worse during the rainy season and unless urgent steps are taking to fix the roads, the residents are in big trouble facing the next rainy season as there is no resources for the Committee to carry out the usual palliative measure they use to carry out after the peak of the rainy season. He said that the leadership of the village usually carry out palliative to ameliorate the situation after the rainy season but this time the situation is too much for them to handle.
According to him, “normally at the peak of rainy reason people park their vehicles and use alternate means like okada and Keke and then wait for self help palliative from the leadership of the village and we have been trying our best to use sand and stone to fill some of the bad joints as palliative measure but this time I must say that the leadership of the village is overwhelmed by the terrible conditions of the road and as it stands now, there is nothing much we can do, that’s why we have to seek help from government at various levels”
Going further he said “we are calling on government at all level including the local government and the State government as well as the State and Federal Constituencies where Akuzor fall in to come and render help In the absent of a full fledge construction, we need trips of sand and stone to fill up some badly affected places. So, we also appealing to the public spirited individuals to do something no matter how little”
