Atupulazi Warns UNIZIK Students Against Campus Marriages

News

Jude Atupulazi, the Editor-in-Chief of Fides Newspaper, has strongly advised students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to avoid engaging in unofficial marriages while on campus.

He emphasized that the school environment is not conducive for students to live with the opposite sex in their hostels, warning that such behaviour can lead to a bleak future.

Atupulazi, who spoke as a keynote lecturer at a programme organized by the Association of Mass Communication Students (ASOMAC), identified campus romance as a significant distraction facing many students.

He noted that such relationships can lead to poor academic performance, lack of focus, and regrettable experiences.

The journalist shared his own experiences during his university days, highlighting the importance of concentrating on studies.

He advised students to form study groups of four or five students to achieve good results.

The award-winning journalist also encouraged students to broaden their knowledge by reading newspapers, listening to news, and being attentive in class.

He tasked students to be their own inspiration, as the country’s brutal and impatient environment may not provide the necessary motivation.

Atupulazi emphasized the need for students to be alive to their environment, know what is trending, and be able to write or discuss issues intelligently.

The journalist warned students that unofficially “marrying” on campus can lead to a range of negative consequences, including: poor academic performance, lack of focus, regrettable experiences and bleak future

He highlighted various opportunities available to Mass Communication students, urging them to explore these options to secure gainful employment after graduation.

He thanked the organizers for coming up with the programme and hoped that the students would benefit from it.
