Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has unveiled ambitious plans to transform Agulu and Anaocha Local Government Areas into thriving tourist destinations.
Soludo spoke during the commissioning of the Agulu Solution Arena Fruit and Vegetables market.
He said his administration has a “big agenda” for Agulu and Anaocha Local Government Area, aiming to harness its natural endowments to drive economic growth and development .
Soludo highlighted Agulu as a tourism hub, citing its breathtaking lake and rich cultural heritage.
He envisioned Agulu becoming a magnet for tourists, with visitors flocking to experience its natural beauty and unique attractions.
He said, “If Agulu were abroad, it would be one of the most expensive places to live.”
To achieve this vision, Soludo announced plans to develop a master plan for Agulu, which would include measures to eliminate reckless street markets and promote organized trading.
“No developed country can have reckless markets,” he stressed, adding that his administration would provide alternative spaces for traders in Awka.
Agulu Lake, a prominent tourist attraction, is already generating interest, with visitors drawn to its serene surroundings and legendary crocodiles .
The lake’s cultural significance and natural beauty make it an ideal hub for eco-tourism, and Soludo’s plans are expected to further boost its appeal.

The new market(Oye Toro) located on the Agulu Lakeside road in Umuowelle, Agulu in the Anaocha Local Government Area, will serve as a permanent site for the relocated Nwagu Agulu fruit market, which was displaced due to ongoing road construction projects.
The market relocation is expected to enhance economic activities in the area, providing opportunities for traders and farmers to showcase their produce.
Soludo’s administration has also prioritized patronizing locally manufactured products, facilitating business, and mobilizing private capital.
Speaking, a human rights activist, Mr. Osita Obi, commended the Anambra State Capital Territory Authority (ACTA) Chairman, Stanley Onunkwo, for his ideas that have transformed the capital territory.
Obi hailed the Anambra State governor for showing compassion to the displaced fruit and vegetable traders by providing them with an even better place after their dislocation.
