Buhari to meet Onitsha biz community on Monday
the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress,(APC) candidate, Maj Gen Muhammadu Buhari, rtd, would on today in Onitsha participate in a town hall meeting with the Organised Private Sector.
The town hall meeting is aimed at addressing some critical policy issues as regards business and industry in the South East and its strategic importance to Nigeria.
The event which is being convened by the Presidential Campaign Council, Anambra State is at Sharon House , Onitsha.
Briefing newsmen yesterday in Awka, the Chairman, Presidential Campaign Council for Anambra State, Barrister Chima Okafor said that the event was geared towards showcasing General Muhamadu Buhari’s policy thrust as regards business and industrial sectors where the Igbo race feature prominently.
His words: ‘’For the purpose of educating our people, from the five South East States,on the economic agenda of General Muhamadu Buhari, we have planned this event in the commercial town of Onitsha in order to ensure that our candidate bares his mind on how he intends to restore the manufacturing capacity and the industrial glory of the South East region of Nigeria.”
”We want the businessman and industrialists who have been baring the brunt of poor infrastructure , insecurity, poor micro and macro economic policies and finally the rapid drop of the value of the Naira as against the Dollar, to come and engage General Buhari and see how his policies will transform the South East region into the tiger of Africa.
“We have reached out to these captains of industry, because as creators of economic value, they are essential in the change promise of the APC.
“The South East used to be the industrial engine of the nation, unfortunately past governments have not been able to implement policies that will rejuvenate the area and tap into the entrepreneurial spirit of the people, this I believe the Buhari administration will help achieve. it is the essence of the programme. ” He said.
Meanwhile, Barely a week to the general elections, former governor of Anambra state, Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju has said that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC), General Muhammudu Buhari, has the potential to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Mbadinuju who spoke in a press conference in Awka, Anambra state, yesterday said the indices for victory in elections were in favour of the retired general.
He submitted that recent international opinion polls gave the victory to Buhari in the ratio of 60% to 40% against his PDP counterpart, adding that both the United states and Britain were more disposed to Buhari becoming the president of Nigeria because of his anti-corruption legacy.
The ex- governor maintained that in recent abroad visits of the retired general , most world leaders met with him and expressed their resolve to support him in his bid.
He said Nigeria is a strategic country in the world that different interests would play out in next week’s presidential polls.
He said the bane of the ruling party (PDP) was monumental injustices meted out to most founding members of the party , as himself, saying that he twice won the primary elections of the party for his re-election in 2003.
