The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its ban on the use of fireworks, knockouts, and other explosives during the Christmas festivities in the state.

According to Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, the ban is still in force due to the dangers associated with the use of these explosives, especially during the harmattan period.

The police command warned that the use of knockouts and fireworks can cause unnecessary fear, apprehension, and disturbances to public peace and safety.

They also cautioned against the use of tinted vehicles, except when necessary, as criminal elements often use them to evade security checks.

In a statement, the police command urged the public to remain vigilant and seek their support in sustaining safety, improving surveillance, and reporting any suspicious activities or information to the nearest police station or via their emergency hotlines on 07039194332 or the PRO 08039334002.

The command also attached the phone numbers of the respective Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers for easy contact.

They encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities or information, no matter how minor, to help prevent crime and maintain public safety.

The command advised against engaging in jungle justice, instead encouraging citizens to take apprehended suspects to the nearest police station for proper investigation and prosecution.

This, they said, would help to ensure that justice is served and that the rights of all individuals are protected.

In addition, the police command reminded motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations.

They also warned against negligent acts that could cause fire outbreaks, such as uncontrolled bush burning, careless handling of electrical appliances, and immoderate dropping of cigarette butts.

The command noted that the harmattan period is a critical time for fire safety, and urged the public to take necessary precautions to prevent fires.

They also urged the public to report any fire incidents promptly to the nearest fire station or police station.

The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to consolidating on the gains in crime prevention, restoration of law and order, and improving the safety and security of lives in the state, the PPRO added.
