The Anambra State Anti-Corruption Strategy (ANSACS) Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Committee has kicked off its 10-day baseline survey to 30 selected Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the state, with a visit to the Anambra State Ministry of Power and Water Resources, to assess the implementation progress of the ANSACS framework by the Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC) members as well as the entire staff of the ministry.
Goodness Media reports that the 10-day baseline survey to assess the level of implementation of the ANSACS Framework in the selected Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the state, as contained in the circular signed by the Anambra State Head of Service, Dame Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, mni, will hold from Tuesday, 26th August to Thursday, 4th September, 2025.
The head of service in the circular, directed the permanent secretaries and the heads of agencies of the concerned MDAs to give the important exercise the seriousness it deserves.
Speaking when she led the Group 7 Team of the ANSACS M&E Committee to the Anambra State Ministry of Power and Water Resources on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the team leader, Ugochi Freeman of the Creative Minds for Youths and Community Development, said the baseline survey which was a follow up to the training earlier gave to the ACC members, was necessary so as to assess the implementation of ANSACS in the ministry.
According to her, the implementation when it records success, would help to curb corruption, make the workplace prosperous and ensure good governance in Anambra State, in line with the vision of Anambra State Anti-Corruption Strategy.
The M&E Team at the survey gathered that the Anti-Corruption Committee was in existence in the Ministry of Power and Water Resources, that after their training, the ACC had carried out some anti-corruption activities in line with the ANSACS framework.
Among the activities carried out by the ACC included monitoring of the attitude of the staff to work, sensitisation of the staff of the RUWASSA department, development of costed work plan for mounting of suggestion box and anti-corruption slogan placards in the ministry and proposed sensitisation of Fire Service department fixed for August 29, 2025.
Receiving the M&E team members in his office the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water & Power Resources, Mr Victor Ezekwo, assured both the ANSACS M&E and ACC committees of the full support of the ministry so as to ensure successful implementation of the ANSACS framework.
Recalling that he was part of those that witnessed the implementation of ANSACS by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Program I in 2019, Mr Ezekwo, expressed his joy that the body was resuscitated to fight corruption within the civil service.
While noting that the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr Julius Chukwuemeka, is also an anti-corruption champion, the permanent secretary assured that the ministry would give priority to the ACC’s need of an office as well as ensure that its budget would be included in the allocation for next year.
Goodness Media also reports that the M&E Team that visited the Power and Water Resources Ministry included Ugochi Freeman of the Creative Minds for Youths and Community Development, Ifeoma Ezenyilimba of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Chibuzo Ege of the Ministry of Education, Emmanuel Ike of Ministry of Information and Alfred Ajayi of Core Truth Media.
