Newborn baby rescued from pit toilet in Anambra dies

A newborn baby who was recently rescued from a pit toilet three days after birth in Anambra, has died.

The baby had been rescued from a dry pit toilet in Otuocha, Anambra East local government area of Anambra state, where its mother identified as Nwaedoka Chidimma, from Izzi, Ebonyi state, had disposed it after birth.

The media assistant to the commissioner for women’s affairs, Miss Chidinma Ikeanyionwu stated that news of the baby’s death was received on Wednesday after treatment commenced at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka.

Upon rescue of the baby, the commissioner had ordered that she be taken for the hospital for treatment, before its death.

Ikeanyionwu said: “All efforts to resuscitate the baby including administration of oxygen and fluids with cardiopulmonary resuscitation by the hospital proved abortive.

“The commissioner, Hon Obinabo appreciated the efforts of the doctors at COOUTH Amaku, Awka.

“Obinabo went on to advise young adult females to always use protection if they can’t abstain from sex to avoid unwanted pregnancy and further told them to go to their state government’s women affairs ministry if they fall pregnant and don’t want to keep the baby.”
