The relentless bloodletting and kidnapping of innocent persons in Anambra State have reached a boiling point, making it imperative for the state government to launch Operation Udo Ga-Achi without further delay.
We commend Governor Soludo’s administration for announcing the launch of this comprehensive security initiative, which promises to usher in a new era of peace and security in the state.
The finalization of plans for Operation Udo Ga-Achi at the 2025 Executive Council Retreat is a welcome development.
This operation represents a multifaceted approach to tackling insecurity, incorporating community policing, intelligence gathering, and strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
To ensure its success, the government must provide adequate funding, equipment, and training for the operatives.
However, we caution that Operation Udo Ga-Achi must not become another rhetoric of the government.
The operatives should be administered an oath of fidelity and confidentiality before being deployed to the field, to ensure their integrity and shield them from corruption and criminal influences.
Furthermore, the government must establish a robust mechanism for monitoring and evaluating the operation’s progress, to identify areas for improvement and make necessary adjustments.
The people of Anambra State have suffered enough, and it is time for concrete actions to address the security challenges facing the state.
We urge the state government to launch Operation Udo Ga-Achi without further delay and to ensure that it is a game-changer in the state’s security landscape.
The government must also engage with local communities, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to build trust and foster cooperation.
Ultimately, the success of Operation Udo Ga-Achi depends on the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and community engagement.
As Operation Udo Ga-Achi becomes operational, we urge the government to establish robust safeguards to prevent human rights violations and ensure that the operatives conduct their duties in accordance with the law and international human rights standards ¹.
Let us hope that Operation Udo Ga-Achi will be different from former initiatives like “Operation Kpochapu” and will bring lasting peace and security to Anambra State.
Launch Operation Udo Ga-Achi now, and let us witness a new era of peace, security, and prosperity in our beloved state.
