Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, has dignified the life and times of Chief Gabriel Nnebe, a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, during his time as a governor.

Obi said he ruled the state with cooperation of the 30 opposition lawmakers through the ingenuity of the Speaker Anayo Nnebe.

Obi stated this in Awka on Friday during a requiem session for Nnebe by the leadership of the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Recall that Anambra has a 30-member House of Assembly.

Obi described late Nnebe, who passed away on January 23, 2024 after a brief illness at the age of 61 years in a public hospital in Anambra, as a brilliant legislator and a unifier.

Obi prayed God to grant the state grace to sustain Nnebe’s legacies, saying he( Obi) achieved so because of Nnebe’s encouragement, describing him as a visionary leader.

He said that huge development of the state was due to Nnebe’s transformative leadership belief.

Obi said,“God is taking home good people to allow their ideology and foot prints to attracts attentions in doing spirited services for common human development and growth.

“Nnebe showcased service above self and placed the interest of the state above his personal or political aspirations, his leadership belief paved way for harmony and unity in purpose during his time as a governor.

“Nnebe, who he described as a distinguished son of Anambra State and a patriotic Nigerian, served the state with honour, integrity, and excellence,” he said.

He urged the present lawmakers to work well with the executive for the growth and development of the state.

He urged his immediate family to hold on to the legacies of their father for a lasting memorial.

The 8th assembly speaker Mr Somtochukwu Udeze described Nnebe as a big loss to the legislative arm under him as he was a greater enabler to the present lawmakers.

Udeze said that his legacies will certainly spur the present lawmakers to sustain good relationship existing between the executives and legislature in the state.

“He was a man of peace, wisdom, and compassion. His death is also a huge blow to APGA and to the entire people of Anambra State.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him”, he said.
