The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 39-year-old man, Chukwugozirim Christian, for impersonating a Nigerian Navy personnel and engaging in fraudulent activities in Anambra State.
According to a statement by the NSCDC, Christian was apprehended at Kwata Junction in Awka on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, during a routine visibility patrol.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been masquerading as a naval officer, duping innocent civilians and engaging in criminal activities.
The Anambra State NSCDC Commandant, Comdt. Maku Olatunde, paraded the suspect at the State Command Headquarters in Awka on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, and commended his operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.
The suspect’s residence was searched, yielding incriminating evidence, including military gear and uniforms. The Naval authorities confirmed that he was an impersonator with no affiliation to the Nigerian Navy.
The NSCDC has launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect’s accomplices. The suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The State Commandant assured the public that the command remains committed to safeguarding citizens from impostors and criminals, urging them to remain vigilant and provide timely information to aid in the fight against crimes and criminality.
