Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has accused Prof. Obiora Okonkwo of contributing to the state’s security problems.
Mefor stated this during an interactive session with The Razor Newspaper management team at his office.
According to Mefor, Okonkwo, who contested the 2021 governorship election, like other politicians, recruited and armed youths during the polls but abandoned them afterward, leaving them without disarmament.
This, Mefor stated, has significantly contributed to the state’s insecurity.
Mefor also criticized Okonkwo’s recent interview, where he described Governor Soludo as a problem rather than a solution to Anambra’s issues.
In response, Mefor pointed out that before Soludo’s tenure, hoodlums had taken over nine local government areas, which Soludo had since reclaimed.
While acknowledging that the security situation remains less than ideal, Mefor credited Soludo with reasonably curbing insecurity in the state.
Okonkwo had previously expressed concerns about Anambra’s deteriorating security, stating, “Anambra is becoming a ghost state… the security situation got worse when Soludo took over.”
He questioned Soludo’s leadership style, suggesting it might be designed to keep people away from the state to secure a second term.
