The Anambra State Police Command has paid the school fees of five outstanding pupils in the state as part of efforts aimed at encouraging academic excellence and promoting nation-building.
The gesture, according to the Command, was part of activities marking the National Police Day celebration and reflects the commitment of the Police to community-oriented policing and youth development.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Awka by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command said the beneficiaries were selected based on their outstanding academic performances in their respective schools.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ikioye Orutugu, noted that the Police would continue to support initiatives capable of positively impacting the lives of residents, especially young people.
He said the Command remained committed not only to maintaining law and order, but also to programmes that promote trust, compassion and community development across the state.
The Police Command also used the opportunity to reaffirm its dedication to “policing with empathy,” disclosing that operatives attached to the Okpoko Division recently rescued an unconscious male pedestrian during a routine foot patrol along the Onitsha/Owerri Road near Dozzy Filling Station, Okpoko.
According to the statement, the unidentified elderly man was found lying unconscious by the roadside and was immediately rushed to a hospital where he is currently receiving medical attention.
The Command appealed to members of the public with useful information concerning the identity, family or residence of the victim to report to the Okpoko Police Division for necessary action.
It stressed that the Command would continue to combine effective policing with people-oriented programmes designed to strengthen public confidence and enhance community relations in Anambra State.
