Soludo Yet to Register in His Ward, Says APC Chairman

Former Central Bank Nigeria(CBN) Governor, Prof Charles Soludo has denied reports that he was planning to join the race for Anambra governorship election which holds later this year.

Some major national dailies had reported yesterday that the former number one banker was among the top aspirants battling for the ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APC) to contest for the position.

But the State chairman of the party, Barr Emeka Ibe, who was quoted as mentioning Soludo and other candidates in the race said Soludo’s name was mentioned in error.
Ibe while speaking to WWW.ELEKENEWS.COM said Prof Soludo was yet to register in his immediate ward, and could not have been gunning for the ticket of the party without being a member.
“I think the error was because Soludo is a friend of this government, and has alsot been assumed to be a friend of the party, to the extent of being mistaken as our member.”

But Soludo in a reaction to the story said he was not even a member of the party, let alone gunning for the governorship ticket of the party.

His reaction read, “My attention has been drawn to a publication in which the state chairman of the party was reported to have listed my name among those contesting   for the party’s nomination for the Anambra governorship election.

“Since the said publication, I have received hundreds of calls, texts and emails seeking clarification on the matter. I also sought and obtained the phone number of the said state chairman and spoke to him in order to ascertain the veracity of the story, and he confirmed to me that he was mis-reported.

“Consequently, I wish to clarify that I am not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and could therefore not be contesting for its party nomination.”

Top politicians of Anambra origin have recently staged a mass defection to the APC, in the hope of contesting the state governorship election which is due for between November and December of this year, on its platform.
