Teacher suspected of flogging pupil to death surrenders self after manhunt

Following sustained manhunt operations by the Anambra State Police Command’s Safe School Protection Squad, a school teacher suspected to have flogged a pupil to death has surrendered.
Anambra police had launched a manhunt for the teacher Mrs. Dim Ebere, in collaboration with officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters, before she surrendered.
The incident happened at Adazi-Ani in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State where the teacher was accused of flogging the pupil before he developed illness that led to his death.
Police said through continuous engagement with stakeholders and community leaders in Adazi-Ani, the suspect has surrendered.
A press release by the Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga announcing his surrender stated that investigation into the matter has started.
He said: “The suspect is currently in Police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, where the ongoing investigation will be concluded.
“To this end, the command commends the cooperation of the Adazi-Ani community, traditional institution, and other stakeholders whose support contributed to the suspect’s surrender.
“The family of the deceased and members of the public are hereby assured that the command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served.”
Ikenga quoted the command as urging members of the public to remain calm, refrain from taking the law into their own hands, and continue to provide useful information that will aid ongoing investigations and other policing efforts across the State.
