UNIZIK inducts 20 into its pioneer Hall of Fame

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has inducted 20 people into its pioneer hall of Fame in recognition of their contributions towards the development of the institution.

The ceremony, which took place at the university’s auditorium yesterday, formed part of the 17th convocation ceremony of the university which will climax on December 8, 2023.

Among those inducted were a businessman, Chief Ignatius Aguowo, Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike and Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon C.P Okoye.

The inductees were described as major donors to projects being executed in the various campuses of the university.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Charles Esimone, who handed the awards to the beneficiaries, said the institution decided to honour those who have partnered with the university one way or the other.

He said: “This is the pioneer award ceremony for the Hall of Fame and we have decided that it will be an annual event.

“The award is in recognition of their contributions towards the development of the university. With their induction, they have become part and parcel of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and we will always invite them to the activities of the university.”

He explained that an edifice will be built as the Hall of Fame where all the inducted people will be displayed.

One of the awardees, Chief Ignatius Aguowo described the event as a thing of joy and commended the Vice Chancellor for appreciating their philanthropic activities.

He said: “Professor Esimone has a great vision for UNIZIK and his five years as Vice Chancellor has uplifted the university in all areas.

” I am prepared to discuss with the university management, areas it would require further assistance from me.

“I understand that the university is planning to build an edifice as the Hall of Fame and I will be part of it.

” I pray that Esimone’s successor will also continue to improve on his track record so as to take UNIZIK to greater heights.”

Aguowo commended Esimone for initiating the project that would outlive him and urged other university administrators to emulate his action.
