2023: LP targets N100bn crowdfunding for Peter Obi

The National Chairman of Labour party, Bar. Julius Abure has inaugurated an eleven-man diaspora committee to generate about N100bn crowdfunding for the Presidential Campaign of Peter Obi.

The committee was also charged with the responsibility of recommending the creation of diaspora chapter, monitor their activities, organise fund raising and arrange travels for the campaign council.

Abure, who made the disclosure at the party’s headquarters in Abuja during the inauguration of the committee, said that the diaspora community has declared to form groups of committees to launch crowdfunding initiatives for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

He said the move was necessitated by pressure from patriotic Nigerians clamouring to contribute to the success of the party.

He said: “There has been clamour of people who want to contribute to the growth and development of the course. Arising from this course are the necessity to have these activities coordinated.

“The party, therefore, has decided to put up a committee of 11 distinguished Nigeria’s to drive this process. And it is that committee we are inaugurating today.

“I, therefore, want to definitely want to call on them and ask them to present them to you and then announce their terms of reference.

“The committee will be chaired by Honourable Chibuike O. Amadichi chairman, Diaspora Committee our Party.”

He specified their mandates, which include:

“To recommend for the national chairman, the creation of the Diaspora chapters.

 

“To monitor the activities of the Diaspora chapter report to the national chairman organized fundraising activities and donations to the party. After liaising with the party.

 

“To facilitate travel arrangements for party officials to perform any other functions connected. This these are the terms of reference of these competencies. I therefore want to present them to you to formally inaugurate them, and then give them the mandate to perform the functions already enumerated”.

 

Abure charged members of the committee to be patriotic and accountable in the discharge of their duty and be dedicated at all times to achieve optimal results.

“The duty we have assigned to you we expect that you carry it out in good faith without fear or favour. We expect that you exercise both faith. Your most be dutiful by patriotic in this assignment, transparent and accountable.

“The movements we are in today are not driven by any other thing. It is driven by integrity, dignity, competence and performance. And therefore all those that will be involved in this struggle in these assignments must have these virtues. I therefore want to urge you that these facts must be in your minds as you carry out these assignments.

 

In his acceptance speech, chairman of the newly inaugurated Diaspora Committee, Chibuike O. Amadichi, who spoke on the committee’s behalf gave the assurance to put his best into work and assured Nigerians in Diaspora the party’s commitment to form a new government that will midwife a new Nigeria with Peter Obi as President.

“We want a new Nigeria where everyone of us can be proud to call his or her own country a new Nigeria where everyone can be free and operate without any fear or favour.

“Finally, I want to assure Nigerians in Diaspora that Labour Party will give equal opportunity to all the Party members home and abroad.

“What a party member is entitled to here in Nigeria, a party member in Diaspora will also be entitled to same benefits as we await the birth of a new Nigeria where Nigerians in the Diaspora can gladly come home to invest”, he said.

Meanwhile, Obi was conferred with Peace Award by the Peace Development and Conflict Settlement Centre.

Presenting the award to the Presidential candidate who was represented by Abure, the chairman of the group, Hon Chibuike O. Amadichi said, Obi was chosen because of his proven track record in Anambra state, outstanding successes in the cooperate Nigeria and integrity of character.
