The lawmaker representing Idemili North and Idemili South Local Goverment Areas in the House of Representatives, Hon Obinna Chidoka has empowered over two hundred persons in his constituency on capacity building on modern environmental situational hazard control.
The empowerment program took place at the Thomas Chidoka Centre for Human Development, Obosi, Anambra State on Friday and Saturday.
The participants were drawn from the communities that constitute Idemili North and Idemili South federal constituency.
The guest speaker at the two day empowerment program, Dr Taiwo B. Ahmed of Department of Environmental Health Science, University of Ibadan took the participants through training on plastic waste upscaling to floor tiles and road paver.
Dr Ahmed, a Senior Waste Management Expert EU-NCCRP Project, Abuja also educated the trainees on production of smokeless charcoal.
The guest speaker during an interactive session with journalists said that the empowerment training is targeted at reducing unemployment level in Nigeria.
He noted that the participants are privileged to be subjected to an intensive training on how to convert solid waste to wealth even as he charged the trainees to build on the training they got.
In his own comment, Mr Victor Eboh, Divisional Head and Registrar at Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) noted that the capacity building training, facilitated by Hon Chidoka is the right way to go to curb unemployment level in the country.
He pointed out that with the training, the participants can be useful to themselves and as well be useful to the society.
Mr Elosia Chukwuduba, Environmental Health Officer in Anambra State applauded the program noting that it has the capacity to make participants self reliant and also has the potentiality of making the environment clean.
Miss Cynthia Enyi, who spoke on behalf of the participants thanked Hon Chidoka for being a responsible and responsive federal legislator.
She said as a matter of fact that the 2023 House of Representatives election for Idemili North and Idemili South LGA is a walkover for Hon Chidoka who has done so well in the green chamber of the National Assembly.
“Hon Obinna Chidoka has created a name for himself as the Voice of Ndigbo, for us his constituents, he has become the shinning light who is giving his constituency an uncommon representation in the National Assembly and also making quality Constituency projects available to us. Our prayers are always with him. The reward for hardwork is more work. We will be sending him to Abuja again come 2023 to continue the good work.” She asserted.
The highlight of the two day empowerment program was presentation of Certificate of Participation and start up funds to the participants.
