CP meets Unizik mgt, SUG leadership over cultism, robbery around Ifite

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Echeng Echeng has met with the management and leadership of Students Union Government (SUG) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The meeting was over the recent surge in cultism related killings and activities of armed robbers within Ifite community, where students of the institution mostly reside.

The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga who spoke about the meeting said: “Anambra State Police Command, met with the management of Nnamdi Azikwe University, the student union government, and the Commissioner of Homeland Security Affairs.

“The meeting took place in the Vice chancellor’s conference hall at Unizik. The meeting was aimed at addressing the recent security breaches in some of the hostels along Ifite.

“The Commissioner of Police, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP John Obuagbaka noted that the command has since embarked on an intensive patrol, improved operational positioning, and deployment of covert operatives as a solution to the security situation in the area.”

THISDAY gathered that resolutions were made at the meeting, which included scheduling of a more elaborate meeting with private hostel owners, presidents of hostels, and other stakeholders within Ifite.

There have been several incidences of cult related killings in Ifite, including robbery operations in students’ hostels, among others.

Ifite is a community close to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and most students of the institution who live off campus reside in the community.
