What Anambra Deputy Gov said About Obiano’s Use of Private Jets
The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke has condemned the orchestrated smear campaign targeted at his boss, Chief Willie Obiano by opposition who recently alleged that he hired a private jet with Anambra’s scarce resources to travel to Abuja.
Okeke said such was brazen falsehood as his boss does not travel in private jets, nor did he hire one on the day in question.
Media aides of governor Obiano had last week accused former governor Peter Obi’s aides of taking photograph of a private jet belonging to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar while it was at the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu and alleging Obiano hired it to travel to Abuja.
Clearing the air on that, Okeke described such report as false claims by elements within the opposition saying that in actuality the private jet belongs to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Okeke pointed out that contrary to this campaign, Governor Obiano was waiting to catch his flight on Arik Airlines to Abuja on the said day when the jet arrived, and he had to go to the former vice president to exchange greetings.
Dr. Okeke who represented Obiano at the burial service of late Chief Benneth Offor, the father of business mogul, Sir Emeka Offor described it as unnecessary distraction.
He said, “The endless targeting of Obiano by opposition elements who scratch at straws to diminish the impressive achievements of the Obiano administration in the past two and a half years is regrettable.
“I had to mention the governor’s mode of travel because some persons raised falsehood a few days ago claiming that he was traveling to Abuja in an expensive private jet.
“That is not true and I don’t know why some persons would choose to lie against the governor at this time of economic hardship just to score a cheap political point,” Okeke said.
