Anambra Community Risks Electric shock As Rainfall Destroys Power equipment

Residents of Adabebe village in Amawbia Community,Awka South local government area are currently at the risk of being electrocuted following the destruction of eight electric poles by heavy down pure in the area.
The rainfall came few days after the construction of drainage which is on going had commenced and has also stalled the drainage and road construction in the village.
Already the Deputy Speaker of Anambra state House of Assembly Nze Pius Okoye who resides in the area has contacted the Enugu Electrical Distribution Company EEDC over the incident but the body is yet to respond to the appeal.
When reporters visited the EEDC office in Awka no one was willing to speak on the matter and non confirmed receipt of the complaint from the the Deputy Speaker.
According to him “We have contacted the workers at the EEDC and they promised to do something about it but this is dangerous in view of the risk involved and we have over 2,000 school children that use this road everyday as well as people that leave around here ”
“On the unlikely event there is a power surge , you can imagine what would happen and no vehicle can pass through that road and this is dangerous for us here in Adabebe village” he said.
The village that houses three post Primary Schools, a hotel and over 200 buildings is under sustained apprehension as school children and residents in the area no longer go to school for fear of being electrocuted.
The concrete poles have all been broken after the rains had eaten deep into the foundations of the poles while the high tension cables are currently on the road to the area .
Also speaking a resident in the area Mrs Ijeoma who is a school teacher noted that if nothing urgent is not done the number of deaths that would be recorded would be high.
“The EEDC should come and save us from the impending danger that is coming when light is restored”
“At night an unsuspecting visitor may fall victim and for us here we don’t have any access or another road we can use so this is not good ”
“They don’t need to wait until something bad happens and I urge you journalists to please help us tell them because we are living in fear” she lamented.
