~ Unveils autobiography, Beyond Sycophancy

Friends, colleagues and other acquaintances of the immediate past Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Chief Chido Obidiegwu on Saturday gathered to celebrate him.

Obidiegwu, a first class master of ceremony and events anchor had turned 60. To mark the event, he also unveiled his autobiography, Beyond Sycophancy, a book which many eulogized as a good work of art, which chronicled his rise in the world of event anchoring, to service in government.

The colourful event held at La Villa Hotel at Ngozika Housing Estate was attended by several dignitaries both in the media where Obidiegwu cut his teeth, the academia, friends from government where he had served and also from the corporate world.

In his address, the celebrant told stories of his rise and eventual service in government.

He acknowledged several personalities in Anambra State as playing different roles both in getting high profile event jobs for him and appointment in government, which later led to his moving down to Anambra from his former base, Lagos State.

Some of those he acknowledged included: Senator representing Anambra Central, Chief Victor Umeh, former governors of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi and Chief Willie Obiano, Prof Chukwuma Soludo among others.

Obidiegwu’s book, Beyond Sycophancy, which was unveiled at the ceremony was reviewed by Prof Ken Nworgu, a law professor and former orator of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The event was chaired by Prof. Kate Omenugha, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Odumegwu Ojukwu University and attended by several dignitaries, including Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Paul University, Awka, Senator representing Anambra Central, Chief Victor Umeh and his wife, Dr Val Obienyem, media adviser to Mr Peter Obi among others.

Obidiegwu who has for years become very distinct with trademark baritone voice, and his grown all-grey hair is in his own class in events anchoring.

The celebrant who holds the traditional title of Agu ji ogene was acknowledged by many as a jolly good personality. He also displayed it with beautiful dance steps as he celebrated.
