Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nonye Soludo on Friday hosted a group of aged person in the state to mark this year’s World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is a day set out by the United Nations to celebrate aged people and also remind the world that elders deserve not only care and protection, but also moments of joy, companionship, and celebration.
During the celebration, Mrs Soludo interacted with them, shared food, drinks and laughter with them, reaffirming the need for a world where aged people will be appreciated and encouraged.
While speaking about the meeting in a press statement, Mrs Soludo said: “Today at the Light House, Awka, my heart was full as I welcomed our beloved elders from across Anambra State for a special gathering of friendship, laughter, relaxation, and appreciation.
“Held in the spirit of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, today’s event is a reminder that our elders deserve not only care and protection, but also moments of joy, companionship, and celebration.
“From lively conversations and games to music, dancing, and healthy indigenous delicacies, it was beautiful to see so many smiles and energy light up the room.
“Our elders are living treasures. They are the custodians of wisdom, culture, and values. Spending quality time with them, listening to their stories, and sharing in their happiness reaffirmed the importance of building a society where every older person feels respected, included, and cherished.
“To all our fathers and mothers, thank you for the sacrifices you made to shape the Anambra we proudly call home. Today was for you, and your joy was our greatest reward. God bless you all.”
It was a beautiful sight to see smiles on the faces of octogenarians and nonagenarians who interacted with the wife of the governor.
