Ifitedunu: Monarch Dismisses Protesters As Borrowed Crowd, Back PG Nwoye
Community news
The Traditional ruler of Ifitedunu in Dunukofia local government area of Anambra state, Igwe Emeka Ilouno, has dismissed the group of people who protested the reinstatement of the deposed President-General of the community, Mr. Uchenna Nwoye, as “borrowed crowd”.
A cross section of people of the community held peaceful protest at the government house Awka on Thursday, where they displayed placards with various inscriptions, all showing their disapproval of the reinstatement of their deposed leader by the Soludo administration.
The protesters, who appealed to the state government to conduct fresh election to replace the current Caretaker committee in the town, had warned that reinstating Mr. Nwoye will lead to breakdown of law and order in the community.
But reacting to the incident, Igwe Ilouno said among the protesters were “just six persons from Ifitedunu”, adding that others were hired from Eke Awka market, and were paid two thousand naira and given a bottle of malt each to join the protest.
He went further to explain that one of the protesters who claimed to be youth leader of the community is not, and accused the former President-General of the community, Mr. Samuel Nweke, of desperately trying to cover activities of his administration, adding that “the good people of Ifitedunu may now see some reasons to ask questions”.
“Is it not obvious that these people are hiding something? Just a four year tenure and then another village will take over. What are these people fighting for? Just because the chosen one is not who they want, they’re bent on making sure he doesn’t return to office. Ifitedunu, there’s something hidden”
While responding to the protesters at the government house Awka, the Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Local Government Affairs, Barrister Raphael Nnabuife, assured that the state government will wade into the matter to bring solution and ensure lasting peace in the community, urged them to remain calm.
