
The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has assured that its primary elections for the Anambra State House of Assembly and National Assembly positions will be conducted in a free, fair and credible manner to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
The Chairman of the National Assembly Electoral Committee for the exercise, Victor Agunzi SAN, gave the assurance in Awka during a training session for Returning Officers, Electoral Officers and Assistant Electoral Officers ahead of Saturday’s primary elections.
Mr Agunzi emphasized that the elections and their outcomes will be decided by party members, stressing that the results must reflect the wishes of the people at the ward level.
He warned that the exercise will not be business as usual, noting that adequate checks and balances have been put in place.
He called on all aspirants to have their agents ready and to use video recordings to document the process.
The Electoral Committee Chairman disclosed that accreditation will be done using the party membership list at the ward level, while voters must present their Permanent Voter Cards, PVC, before being allowed to vote.
According to him, accreditation will commence at 9:00 a.m., while voting will begin from 12 noon using the Option A4 system.
He directed that after accreditation, voters should form queues at least twenty metres away for the voting exercise.
Mr Agunzi added that the collation centre for each Local Government will be at the council headquarters, with modalities already in place for the collation of ward results.
He urged all officials involved to discharge their duties with integrity and transparency.
The National Chairman of APGA, Chief Silverster Ezeokenwa, while addressing the participants, described the party as a credible platform to beat.
He urged all officials, particularly Returning Officers and Electoral Officers for House of Assembly, Senate and House of Representatives elections , to contribute to the success of the exercise and not compromise the integrity and credibility of the process.
Chief Ezeokenwa disclosed that APGA became the first political party in Nigeria to digitalise its membership register in June 2024, adding that the party now has a complete digital register which will be used for the conduct of the primary elections.
Our Correspondent reports that members of the National Working Committee of APGA were on ground to monitor the exercise which is expected to take place in all the 326 wards across the twenty one local government areas of Anambra State.
