As part of the efforts to assist in combating criminal activities in Anambra state, some communities in the state have commensed registration of tenants living in their areas.

Our correspondent learnt that the exercise has started in Ekwulobia, the commercial city of Aguata Local Government Area.

Aguata is the Local Government Area of the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

A source who chose to be anonymous, for security reasons, confirmed to our correspondent that copies of forms in that respect had been distributed to tenants living in villages like Umuchi, Umuchiana and Okpo, asking them to supply information about their names, sex, marital status, state of origin, means of livelihood and how long they had lived in such areas.

The source said,”Each tenant is expected to attach two recent passport phographs to the forms and return them to the chairmen of the villages where he or she resides.

“One of the nine village Chairmen of Ekwulobia has asked the tenants living in his village to see the exercise as one designed for their safety. He promised to follow the directives of the state government without fear or favour, saying that efforts to secure Anambra state should be of utmost concern to every well meaning resident of the state.

Soludo had recently pulled down a house in Oba town, in the Idemili Local Government Area believed to be kidnappers’ den.

Soludo had also a few weeks ago warned that communities and landlords would forfeit any landed property where any criminal terrorizing the state were found to be using as hideouts.

This apparently heightened the tension among landlords and community leaders in the state hence the seriousness in the efforts to comply in information gathering on people living in their domains.
