The race for the position of a substantive Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has gathered momentum as the process officially kicked off with the election of representatives from the University Senate and Congregation to serve on the Search Team.

At the Senate election held at the University Auditorium, Prof. Amaka Metu of the Department of Economics and Prof. Elizabeth Ezenweke emerged as Senate representatives on the Search Team after a transparent voting exercise.

Similarly, in the election for Congregation representatives conducted at the Mmaduboko Auditorium, located at the new Faculty of Social Sciences building, the contest was described as competitive and credible.

Prof. Uche Collins Nwogwugwu was elected unopposed, while Mr. Osundu Nnamdi garnered 95 votes to defeat Mr. Chike Nwogbu, who polled 35 votes.

The elections were conducted under the supervision of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, with the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, and the University Librarian, Prof. Stella N. I. Anasi, in attendance to ensure due process and transparency.

With the successful constitution of these key representatives, the race for UNIZIK’s next Vice-Chancellor has now entered a decisive stage, as stakeholders keenly watch the unfolding process that will determine the next helmsman of the institution.

Unizik has been without a substantive VC since June, 2024.
