What began as apprehension has blossomed into admiration, as the leadership of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, showcased an inspiring story of transformation, growth, and ambitious vision during its 2026 Town Hall Meeting.

Held on June 23, the strategic engagement brought together the hospital’s governing board, management team, staff, and critical stakeholders under the theme: “Engaging the NAUTH Community: A Strategic Dialogue Between the Governing Board, Management and Internal Stakeholders.”

The gathering became more than a routine administrative meeting; it evolved into a celebration of progress, a reaffirmation of collective commitment, and a bold declaration of NAUTH’s determination to become one of Nigeria’s leading healthcare institutions by 2030.

Among dignitaries in attendance were the Chairman of the NAUTH Governing Board, Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori; the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Joseph Ugboaja (OON); APC Deputy National Organizing Secretary, Barr. Emeka Stephen Okafor; Senator Emma Anosike; Anambra APC Chairman, Barr. Festus Fuanter; former NAUTH CMD, Prof. Ofiaeli; Chief Olisa Metuh, represented by Prof. Edwin Chukwuma; heads of departments, union leaders, and members of staff.

Opening the event, Prof. Ugboaja reflected on the institution’s journey, describing Dalori’s second official visit as both symbolic and significant.

According to him, the visit coincided with a period of renewed confidence following the management’s successful pursuit of continuity in leadership and came at a time when the institution was witnessing unprecedented growth.

“We are not only celebrating the visit of our Board Chairman; we are celebrating God’s grace and favour upon this institution,” Ugboaja declared.

The CMD attributed NAUTH’s impressive transformation to divine providence, visionary leadership, and the dedication of staff who have remained committed to the hospital’s ambitious roadmap.

He reiterated the institution’s strategic goal of positioning itself among Nigeria’s top three tertiary healthcare facilities by 2030, with the ultimate objective of becoming the nation’s foremost hospital.

For Board Chairman Hon. Dalori, the occasion was an opportunity to reflect on a journey that had exceeded his expectations.

He revealed that when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed him chairman of the board, he initially approached the assignment with uncertainty, believing he would be overseeing a relatively modest institution.

However, his first visit completely changed that perception.

“I was amazed by what I saw. The massive infrastructure, the quality of projects, and the dedication of the workforce were beyond my expectations, “Dalori declared.

He credited the achievements to the leadership of Prof. Ugboaja and his management team, whom he described as visionary and result-oriented.

Dalori highlighted significant milestones already achieved under the hospital’s Vision 2030 agenda, including the completion of major infrastructure projects, recruitment of additional personnel, acquisition of modern medical equipment, and continuous staff training.

According to him, these interventions have significantly enhanced the hospital’s operational capacity and improved the quality of healthcare services available to patients.

“We have worked closely to ensure the realization of our Vision 2030 goals. Today, our capacity and quality of care have improved tremendously,” he stated.

The board chairman reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the institution’s aspirations, emphasizing that his mission extends beyond governance to ensuring the welfare of staff and creating an enabling environment for excellence.

He also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for supporting numerous completed projects within the hospital and commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, for facilitating the construction of two access roads leading to the permanent site, a development that has improved accessibility to the facility.

Dalori further acknowledged the contributions of corporate organizations and public-spirited individuals who have partnered with NAUTH in its development drive, singling out the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) for donating a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine to the hospital.

As goodwill messages poured in from prominent stakeholders and union representatives, a common theme emerged: recognition of the transformative leadership driving the institution forward.

Speakers, including Barr. Emeka Okafor, Prof. Ofiaeli, Senator Emma Anosike, Prof. Edwin Chukwuma, and representatives of resident doctors and JOHESU, praised both Prof. Ugboaja and Hon. Dalori for their commitment, resilience, and strategic leadership.

They noted that the visible improvements across the institution have renewed confidence among staff and stakeholders, while positioning NAUTH as a model for healthcare development in Nigeria.

Beyond the speeches and commendations, the town hall meeting underscored a larger narrative, one of an institution steadily redefining its future through visionary leadership, strategic partnerships, and a shared commitment to excellence.

As NAUTH marches toward its 2030 target, stakeholders believe the hospital is no longer merely aspiring to greatness; it is actively building the foundation upon which one of Nigeria’s most respected healthcare institutions may emerge.

For many in attendance, the message was unmistakable: NAUTH’s transformation story is no longer a promise, it is a reality unfolding before their eyes.
