Tension as landslide threatens Anambra School, may swallow classroom block

Barring quick intervention, a classroom block in Nnobi High School will be swallowed by a devastating gully erosion that has cut off the Nnobi-Nkpor road.

Our correspondent who visited the area said the gully is expandingby the day causing rapid downward movement of a mass of rock, earth and sloping towards the school.

A stakeholder in the area, Sir Obiora Okpala(Ifedioramma na Nnobi) has called for a declaration of a state of emergency on the road by authorities concerned.

He said,”The Nnobi -Nkpor road is finally cut off completely.

“After I made a video that went viral on the early hours of Saturday 2nd September which I’m sure got to the Governor, he visited the site on Wednesday 6th September and promised immediate Mobilisation of Works to the sight.

“As at yesterday 12th September after series of downpour over the days the gully finally cut off the Road.

“My worries now is that about 16 feet to that road is one of the junior student’s classroom block of Nnobi High School. Any further devastation of the gully across the land will cut the classroom block into two.

“I call on those close to the governor to urge him to come and assist the good people of Nnobi. The road is a short cut to most commercial commuters heading to parts of Abia and Akwa Ibom states from the commercial city of Onitsha and it’s the major gateway to semi urban city of Ekwulobia. It’s a Multipurpose commercial route ,the road needs Urgent Intervention.
