A fake land agent, Mr Rapuluchukwu Kachi, has been arrested for selling a land belonging to someone else to his sister, for the burial of their mother.
Kachi who was paraded at the Zone 13 police command, after he was arrested, confessed to selling the land to a businesswoman, Mrs Ogechukwu Mbonu who is also his sister, who later buried her late mother on the land.
Kachi who was paraded the the zonal command of the police said: “I’m not the owner of the land, I only brought my friend, Okwudili Akurienne to stand as the owner of the land.
“We did the business and it knocked, that is why I’m in this station today. We are pleading that what we did was not good, and we ask that we be pardoned, and given time to pay back the money. We have paid back N300,000 before I was rearrested.
“We sold the land for N1.5million, and I gave Okwudili N400,000, and I took N1million and we gave the POS agent N100,000. I used the money to buy ceiling for my house.”
The businesswoman, Mrs Mbonu narrated how Kachi, whom she trusted so much because he was his brother was able to dupe him.
She said: “I called him to help me look for a land that I needed. Not up to a week, he called and said he had found one.
“He brought the alleged owner of the land who sold it to me. I paid N1.5million for the land and this happened in February, and around March, my mum died and I buried her there. It was after the burial that I heard that someone was asking to see me that I buried my mum in his land.
“I found out later that they used another persons name to prepare the papers of the land and so I arrested them. It was when we came here that I found out that they used another persons name to sell the land to me.
The owner of the land, Uchenna Frank Ebede told journalists that he came back to commence a building project on his land and found out that a grave was on the land.
“I petitioned the police. I was wondering if Anambra State government had designated my land as a cemetery. I didn’t know my land had been sold, so i traced the person that buried her mother there and met Oge, who now brought the people that sold the land to her.
“Unfortunately, Okwudili who stood as the owner of the land was a guy who had sold out all their ancestral land, until even when the father died, there was no land for him to be buried.
“I bought casket and facilitated the burial of his father in a Catholic cemetery, and this was what he wanted to use to pay me.”
He gave Mbonu one week to exhume the corpse, or face another legal action as he wished to commence work on the land.
Meanwhile, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Ihunwo has said that Kachi would be charged to court to serve as a deterrent to other people who involve in fraud. He added that the police would intensify efforts to arrest Kachi’s accomplice, Rapuluchukwu, who was still at large.
