John Nwosu, Labour Party’s governorship aspirant, has reignited the Obidient movement in Anambra State, with possible plans to mobilize its vast support base against incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other contenders in the 2025 polls.
At the Obidient Movement South-East Good Governance Symposium held in Onitsha, Nwosu emphasized the movement’s pivotal role in reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
The occasion was chaired by the first female professor of mass communication in Subsaharan Africa, Prof Stella Chinyere Okunna.
Nwosu expressed his dissatisfaction with Governor Soludo’s administration, citing failures in security, electricity, health, and commerce.
He noted that the people of Anambra are known for commerce, but there is no enabling environment for them to thrive.
As an ICT consultant and economist, Nwosu believes he has what it takes to liberate Anambra State from underdevelopment.
The Obidient movement, which massively backed Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, aims to transcend politics, ethnicity, and religion, accommodating everyone seeking a better Nigeria.
Nwosu cautioned against hijacking the movement, citing mistakes made in Imo and Edo States.
Nwosu’s vision for Anambra focuses on human capital development, creating an enabling environment for sustainable growth.
He plans to prioritize security, health, education, economy, enterprise, market, and social welfare.
Describing Anambra as the next battleground, Neosu invited Obidients to join forces, applying lessons learned to build a strong foundation for the 2027 presidential elections.
Former Secretary to Anambra State Government, Oseloka Henry Obaze, described the Obidient movement as a refreshing force, bringing civility, respect, and dignity to Onitsha Kingdom .
He noted that Labour Party is the party to beat in the 2025 Anambra election, with many governorship aspirants vying for the ticket.
With Nwosu’s revival of the Obidient movement, the stage is set for a fierce battle between Labour Party and incumbent Governor Soludo’s administration.
