Awka- Igbo – speaking youths across the country have endorsed the planned October 20, 2025 peaceful protest to drive home the demand for the unconditional release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a communique issued after an emergency meeting in Awka on Wednesday, the group, under the auspices of Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly, called on other ethnic regions and all lovers of justice, to join the demand for the unconditional release of Kanu.

Members of the group were drawn from the youth wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, youth wing of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, and members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN.

They called on Ndigbo, home and abroad, to ensure absolute proper conduct of themselves during the protest, so as not to fall victim of any unforseen circumstances, adding that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would not want any innocent blood to be shed on his behalf.

The communique read: “With the establishment of the South East Development Commission, we thought that the civil war is over, but with recent realities, we are convinced that the cold war is still on; ranging from social and economic sabotage, outright exclusion of Ndigbo from national privileges and benefits.

“We call on the federal government to extend its recent good disposition to Ndigbo by granting amnesty to the agitators and releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“This is in view of the fact that the federal government has not been able to convict him of the charges against him. We advocate for Kanu’s release as a political solution to the numerous security challenges in Igbo land.

“While we commend the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the governors of Igbo extraction and other notable leaders and stakeholders, both dead and alive, for their commitment to the relative peace in the South East, as we recognize their several calls for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we however, call on them to sit up and do more on the matter, by putting more pressure on the federal government to take the needful action”.

They welcomed the solidarity and support of the convenners and supporters of the planned October 20th peaceful protest, describing it as a national action against Injustice.

They also called on other ethnic regions and all lovers of justice, to join the demand for the unconditional release of Mazi Kanu

“We want peace, but not the peace of the grave yard. We want unity, but not the unity of a slave and a master. We demand justice, because a people denied justice have no interest for peace”, the youths said.
