
A middle aged man has allegedly been killed by two of his brothers over inheritance issues in Umunankwor village, Ula Ekwulobia in Agauata local government area of Anambra state.
The deceased, Onyedikachi Okpala died after his two brothers Chigbo and Okwudili used matchet to cut the back of his neck after engaging him in a fight while they were preparing for the burial of their father.
According to an eye witness the two suspects who took to their heels after committing the crime had been living idle in the village over the years while their younger brother Onyedikachi was a successful businessman and the bread winner of the family based in Lagos.
The eye witness said that Onyedika engaged a painter who would help to repaint their family house in preparation for the burial, of their father but his two brothers refused that the building will not be repainted .
One of their sister’s , Mrs Celestine Okoye said that while she was entering the compound with Onyedika and the painter, the two brothers rushed and started beating him for attempting to give their house a facelift ahead of their fathers burial.
Continuing she said that as she tried to stop them, one of them grabbed a matchet and cut the back neck of Onyedika leading to his death.
Confirming the incident in a telephone interview with Correspondent Uche Ndeke, the President General of Ekwulobia, Chief Azubuike Ezechukwu described it as a pathetic, shocking and unfortunate development.
He regretted that such a promising bread winner of the family could be killed by those he had been assisting to live.
Chief Ezechukwu revealed that the father in-law of the deceased who had partial stroke, also died shortly after he had the news of his son-in-law’s death.
As at the time of filling this report, one of the fleeing suspects Chigbo had been captured at Ezinifite by local security operatives while Okwudili remains at large.
The Anambra State Police is yet to confirm the incident.
