The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure has condemned the alleged destruction of sections of the ongoing Ndiukwuenu–Awgbu Road Project by land scavengers using heavy equipment, describing the development as unacceptable and capable of frustrating the state’s infrastructural advancement.
The committee made its position known during an inspection tour of ongoing and completed road projects across the state on 1st July, warning that acts of vandalism and encroachment on public infrastructure would not be tolerated.
Speaking during the inspection, the Chairman of the Committee and member representing Orumba South constituency, Hon. Emma Nwafor, disclosed that the Assembly would officially report the matter to the Anambra State Government for immediate intervention.
Hon Nwafor commended the contractors handling the Ndiukwuenu–Awgbu Road Project for the quality and standard of work executed, expressing satisfaction with the pace and professionalism demonstrated on the site.
The lawmakers also inspected the 3.5-kilometre link road connecting Igboukwu and Amichi, describing the project as nearing completion and meeting the expected engineering standards.
“The project is progressing satisfactorily. The road has adequate width and quality carriageway, while the drainage systems and culverts have been properly executed. The only outstanding issue is a catchment area that still requires attention before final completion,” Hon Nwafor said.
At the Akpo–Ogboji Road Project, the committee confirmed that construction work had been successfully completed, describing the project as another milestone in the state’s road infrastructure development.
Also speaking, the member representing Aguata I Constituency, Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke, expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for responding to the yearnings of the people through the execution of the road projects.
He noted that the completed and ongoing projects would significantly improve transportation, stimulate economic activities and enhance the socio-economic wellbeing of residents in the benefiting communities.
