The Anambra State government has issued a warning against the dissemination of fake news regarding insecurity in the state, claiming that certain online videos depicting kidnapping and killings are fabricated.
Chief Chinedu Nwoye( Glamour), Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Protocol to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, disclosed this while addressing journalists.
Nwoye emphasized that while the state government is working diligently to combat insecurity, some individuals, described as “fifth columnists” sponsored by opposition parties, are intentionally spreading false information to hinder progress.
He cited specific examples, including a video of a Lexus Rx 300 that trended recently, which claimed to show an incident occurring in Isu, Anambra State, but was actually an old video from another state.
According to Nwoye, “Our attention has been drawn to some videos in the Social Media alleging that some incidents of kidnapping and killings happened in Anambra State while it is not true.”
He also mentioned that the peddler of the false information was not even speaking the Anambra dialect, and that there are many Isu communities in Igbo land, making it unclear where the alleged incident occurred.
Nwoye reflected on the state’s past experiences with insecurity, recalling a time when he and his friends were forced to leave a funeral hastily due to fear of unknown gunmen.
However, he noted that the current administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime and criminality has brought about significant improvements.
“The state government has reiterated its commitment to freeing all communities in Anambra from crime, with the launch of the Operation Udo Ga-Achi security operations set to commence on January 1st, 2025,” Nwoye said..
