Unizik, NGO invite top journalists to mentor Mass comm students

The Department of Mass Communication of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State in collaboration with

a nongovernmental organisation,’Beyond Community Care foundation, has invited top journalism professionals across the country to mentor Mass Communication students of the institution.

The Head of Department of Mass Communication of the university, Prof Chinwe Uzochukwu, stated this in a joint press briefing with directors of BCCF,Hajia Mariam Bello and Mr Onuora Aninwobodo, on campus.

She said the event would take place at ASUU-NAU Secretariat, Unizik on August, 19.
She gave the names of some the top professional journalists expected on the occasion to include, a former Managing Director of Champion Newspapers, Emma Agu, and a former MD of Sun Newspapers,Chief Tony Onyima.

She hinted that the theme of mentorship programme would be, “Exploring emerging opportunities in Media and Communication”.

Speaking, a BCCF director, Mr Onuora Aninwobodo said no fewer than 500 Almajirai had benefited from the foundation by way of education, healthcare facilities and employment.

He said the foundation’s mission includes,to develop people, lift humanity from poverty and hopelessness.

He said the foundation would now focus on Anambra communities , which he said had necessitated its partnership with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University .

Another BCCF director, Hajia Mariam Bello, said the foundation began in the North about four years ago with the Almajiri system because the founder of the NGO who is Igbo is based in the North.
