The Chairman of Beecharity Outlook Foundation and former Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, Sir Paul Nwosu, PhD, has commended the Anambra State Police Command for demonstrating not only professionalism in crime prevention but also compassion in protecting vulnerable members of society.
Dr Nwosu gave the commendation following the Command’s intervention in the case of the 10-year-old boy, who was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by his guardians. The Police reportedly provided financial support towards the child’s medical treatment and intensified investigations to ensure justice is served.
According to Dr Nwosu, the Police action reflects a humane dimension of policing that deserves recognition.
“Fortuitously, just last Friday, June 12, my team and I paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police to mark the International Day Against Child Labour. During our engagement, issues of child labour and child abuse were extensively discussed, and the Commissioner pledged stronger enforcement of laws protecting children,” he said.
Dr Nwosu expressed delight that within days of that engagement, the Police Command had translated commitment into concrete action.
“I was overjoyed to read the news that in less than one week after our engagement, the Commissioner and his team rose to the occasion with not only professionalism but also humanity,” he added.
He noted that the Police Command’s swift response sends a strong message that abuse of children will not be tolerated in Anambra State.
Dr Nwosu further called on the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, to scale up ongoing efforts to protect the rights and welfare of vulnerable children across communities in the state.
He urged sustained collaboration among law enforcement agencies, government institutions, child protection organisations and community stakeholders to tackle child abuse, neglect, exploitation and all forms of violence against children.
The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring all persons found culpable in the boy’s case are brought to justice in accordance with the law and pledged continued enforcement of child protection laws across the state.
