Pensioners in Anambra State Broadcasting Service (ABS) are protesting their exclusion from the recent financial package announced by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The package included N10,000 for pensioners alongside the new minimum wage.
However, only working staff of ABS have received their new minimum wage for two months, leaving pensioners struggling to cope with economic hardships.
A retired ABS staff member, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration, saying, “We’ve never received the N10,000, and there’s no hope it will come.
The government increased ABS subvention, but they’re not paying us the N10,000 or our gratuities.”
“ABS is claiming that with the increased subvention it is still not enough to accommodate retirees.
“The system is sending us to our graves too early and agonizingly.
“I hope that media mention from our colleagues, like you have been doing, would get Soludo to hear, as it appears his aides are reluctant to intimate him of our plight, despite our repeated memos via the office of HoS
The pensioners are calling on Governor Soludo to intervene, citing their inability to make ends meet.
