Stakeholders of Labour Party in Anambra South senatorial zone have condemned the state governor for rebuking a bereaved family, and alleging violation of Anambra burial laws.

In a strongly worded communique issued after a crucial meeting in Awka, the Anambra South Senatorial Zone Labour Party Stakeholders, led by Honourable Paul Obu, the Minority Whip in the Anambra State House of Assembly condemned the actions of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The party said the governor should rather be consoling the family, instead of rebuking them over the method they choose to celebrate their departed mother.

Soludo had during the burial of Mrs Grace Udefi Obimma, mother of popular Catholic priest, Rev Fr Emmanuel Obimma accused them of flaunting the Anambra burial law, which forbids lavish spending during burials. In reply to this, the Catholic Archbishop, Most Rev Valerian Okeke had asked Soludo to concentrate of governance and jettison enforcement of unjust laws.

The Labour Party in it’s communique criticised the governor saying: That it is contemptuous and smacks of irrationality and unbridled abuse of power for the Governor of Anambra State to constitute himself into the accuser, prosecutor, and judge.

“The governor of Anambra State assumed Ecclesiastical jurisdiction for which he was appropriately rebuked by His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke,” the communique read.
